Remote Hands Technician for immediate start

Location: Field based, West London

We have an opportunity for ambitious, highly motivated Remote Hands Technician who is looking for their next career move into a progressive and growing company.

Job Purpose

The post holder will be responsible for the day-to-day activities that support data centre operations and support of the systems, networks services, business-critical processes, and procedures that support the delivery of the client and customer products and services.

Duties & Responsibilities

To take lead in carrying out on site, the day-to-day duties of client needs. This will include, but not be limited to:

  • Communicate directly with clients to gather information of upcoming works to further enhance business opportunities.
  • Fibre Splicing and repairs as well as fault finding and analysis.
  • Patching of all Copper, Fibre Optic Structured Cabling (SCS).
  • Installation of structured cabling where necessary.
  • To liaise with clients to resolve any issues from an operational perspective.
  • Take the lead and responsibility for the quality and maintenance of any
    installation works that are service ticket related.
  • Monitor cases and communicate directly with clients with service requests.
  • Investigate and fault find with assistance from the clients.
  • Able to use testing equipment such as Fluke Analysers.
  • Server/Hardware knowledge.
  • Basic hardware support including but not limited to manual power, down/up of devices as well as replacing any hot swappable components
  • Racking of devices and rail kits.
  • Able to carry out basic commands with client direction for servers/hosts (desirable not essential).
  • Material Control, maintain records of deliveries and update the ticketing system where required.
  • Driven by SLA’s and ensure clients receive a great level of service.
  • Adhere to Datalec’s safety policy and HSE requirements.
  • Ensure all works comply with Datalec’s, client’s and manufacturers quality standards.

Skills and Behaviours

  • GCSE Level – including Maths & English.
  • NVQ Level 3/equivalent or above in Structured (Data) Cabling or IT Networking.
  • IPAF Appropriate to title, CSCS card, and PASMA (An advantage) or IPAF (An advantage).
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience of the installation, termination and testing of Structured Cabling Systems (Data, Fibre & Voice) – Accredited
    experience in leading Manufacturer brands such as Corning, CommScope, Panduit, Brand Rex, Excel, or equivalent.
  • Fully conversant with the setup and operation of the latest Fluke Analysers.
  • The ability to locate and rectify faults on structured cabling systems.
  • Ability to work from construction drawings.
  • Able to work with minimum supervision.
  • Customer facing, polite and informative.
  • Ability to work remotely as well as a part of a team.

Hours of work

37.5 hours per week – Field based West London.

Core working hours 10.30am to 7.00pm. Overtime will be required.


Salary range of £30,000 to £40,000. Overtime available

Possibility to be available to be on rota when required as a 24/7 service engineer for call outs cover.
