Health and Safety Advisor

Location: EMEA - Berlin, Germany

We have an opportunity for an ambitious, highly motivated Health and Safety Advisor to join our progressive and growing company.

Job Purpose

To provide effective Health & Safety leadership and support to the DPI Project Team(s) and assist in the delivery of the project health & safety objectives.

The role would suit a proactive project focused individual that is adept at understanding the needs of the team and specific project requirements.

Candidates shall be required to have excellent communication skills and interpersonal/presentation skills. The right to work in EMEA and the UK is required to be able to fulfil this role, being multilingual is desirable.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Drive and deliver compliance in-line with DPI H&S Management System requirements and those of the Principal Contractor.
  • Investigate accidents, dangerous occurrences and near misses and recommend preventive action and disseminate learning points to all persons across the Project and Company.
  • Liaise with officials from statutory bodies and other organisations such as the Health and Safety Authority and the Health and Safety Executive, Fire Authorities, Police, Environment Agency, loss adjusters and auditors as applicable (or in-country equivalent).
  • Review the health and safety and environmental documentation submitted by sub- contractors to verify that they have suitable and sufficient systems in place to manage health and safety and the environment effectively.
  • Assist the project team in undertaking scheduled health and safety and environmental inductions.
  • Have good visibility and ‘standing’ on the project – engaging and continually liaising with DPI & Sub-contractors staff and operatives.
  • Conduct programmed audits and site inspections. Monitor all of DPI’s project activities, including Sub-contractors with respect to health and safety and environmental aspects.
  • Regularly monitoring and review health & safety performance and communicate the results to the DPI Project Team and DPI Senior Management Teams.
  • Coordinate health and safety consultation activities and ensure regular consultation with the workforce is undertaken.
  • Assist the Project Lead in the production on monthly health & safety, and environmental reports.
  • Lead by example with regards to the correct behaviours expected by DPI by proactively resolving health & safety issues and concerns immediately and maintain the high standards of health, safety and environmental standards expected.
  • Assist in the delivery of on-site training and toolbox talks to operatives.
  • Liaise with DPI Sub-contractors with regards to early engagement through pre-start meetings and outlining project expectations.
  • Lead weekly and monthly health & safety meetings with DPI Management & Supply Chain.
  • Attend and participate in any Principal Contractor / GC meetings, activities, and project requirements with respect to health & safety.
  • Be the key contact on the project for all aspects of health & safety.
  • Be able to advise on, interpret and implement project contractual and statutory requirements and obligations.
  • Manage, maintain, and review any health & safety related documentation required to meet regulatory and statutory requirements, for examples H&S Plans, statutory inspection reports and certification.

Skills and Behaviours

  • Experience in carrying out and reviewing risk assessments, method statements and site inspections, within the applicable legal guidelines
  • Knowledgeable in a range of specialist areas, e.g. fire regulations, working at height, hazardous substances, manual handling, noise, safeguarding machinery and occupational diseases. Some understanding of a mechanical & electrical environment and electrical safe systems of work.
  • Good understanding / knowledge of health & safety legislation & regulations applicable to the country and ability to apply best practice.
  • Ability to influence others, coaching and guiding to ensure that H&S standards are maintained and provide continuous improvement to support business objectives. Confident challenging others when H&S standards or behaviours are not met.
  • Be an excellent communicator with the ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels of the organisation, and third parties. Ability to adapt style and method accordingly.
  • Analytical approach, using facts to make sound decisions and judgements for a desired outcome.
  • Recording keeping of inspection reports, detailing findings and making recommendations, supported by strong IT Skills including Microsoft 365 and SharePoint.
  • Ability to plan effectively, organising own workload, prioritising and delegating where appropriate.
  • Have some understanding of working in a mechanical & electrical environment and knowledge of electrical safe systems of work.

Qualifications

  • NEBOSH General Certificate and or NEBOSH Construction Certificate (or equivalent)
  • Health and Safety NVQ or Diploma
  • Member of IOSH/IIRSM
  • Appropriate CSCS Card (where applicable) or European or International equivalent

Salary

53-59k (Euros). Depending on experience.
