TIG Welder Supervisor/Fabrication Workshop Lead

Location: Hertford, Hertfordshire

Job Purpose

The TIG Welder Supervisor will lead the welding and fabrication operations, ensuring delivery of high-quality work in line with industry standards, DPI expectations and all applicable Health & Safety requirements. 

This role requires a strategic thinker with strong leadership skills, capable of mentoring junior staff and driving excellence in welding, mechanical, and safety across multiple areas and projects. The post holder will be responsible for supporting the preparation, completion, and maintenance of relevant H&S documentation, including risk assessments, method statements, permits, toolbox talks, and inspection records, ensuring that safe systems of work are clearly communicated, understood, and followed by the team. 

Duties & Responsibilities   

  • Perform advanced TIG welding including 6G pipe & Orbital welding 
  • Oversee & manage robotic orbital welding  
  • Work with carbon steel, stainless steel and specialist alloys 
  • Interpret engineering drawings, WPS and specifications 
  • Lead workshop setup, layout and fabrication processes 
  • Material & Sundry Procurement, management & Stock Controlling  
  • Develop welding procedures and quality control processes 
  • Manage/ Conduct X-ray & Magnetic Particle Testing to industry standards 
  • Support project planning and coordinate with engineers and PMs 
  • Ensure compliance with ISO / ASME welding standards 
  • Supervise and mentor welders and apprentices 
  • Maintain safe working practices and H&S compliance 
  • Represent the business, upholding our core values and behaviours with all internal and external customers, clients and third parties 
  • Maintain business and client confidentiality, adhering to applicable Data Protection regulations and Information Security Standards in line with company and group policies and procedures.

Essential Skills and Experience  

  • Proven TIG welding experience (6G preferred) 
  • Workshop fabrication experience 
  • Experience with Orbital & Robotic Welding 
  • Ability to read drawings and WPS 
  • Supervisory or leadership experience 
  • Knowledge of welding standards (ISO / ASME) 
  • Excellent testing knowledge & experience 
  • Relevant certifications (CSWIP desirable) 
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills 
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel, as required
