This October, we proudly celebrate our business birthday. In October 2012, Datalec Precision Installations (DPI) was born from the vision of one man who believed there was a better way to serve the data centre industry, one rooted in precision, perfection, and relentless innovation. What began as a single-minded pursuit to improve standards has evolved into a truly global enterprise, now employing over 300 skilled professionals across multiple continents. Today, by delivering advanced, future-ready data centres, we empower our clients to embrace and lead the AI revolution.
“I started DPI with a simple belief that excellence should be the standard, not the exception. Every project, every partnership, every innovation has been driven by that mindset. We don’t just build data centres; we build the future.” Danny Keeper, Group Director, DPI
Over the past decade, the data centre industry has undergone a dramatic transformation. In the UK, demand has surged due to the exponential growth of cloud computing, digital services, and AI technologies. Globally, hyperscale facilities and edge computing have reshaped infrastructure needs, driving innovation and investment at unprecedented levels. As businesses and governments increasingly rely on data-driven operations, the role of data centres has become mission-critical, fuelling a competitive landscape where speed, sustainability, and scalability are paramount. DPI has grown in parallel with this evolution, positioning itself as a trusted partner in delivering the infrastructure that powers the digital world.
From its first client order in October 2012 to completing a turnkey data hall fit-out just two years later, DPI’s trajectory has been nothing short of remarkable. The company’s early success was driven by its commitment to quality, agility, and reliability, values that remain at the heart of its operations today.
By 2017, DPI was already making waves in the industry and had expanded its footprint across Europe, establishing subsidiaries in Ireland, Germany, and the Netherlands. This period marked the company’s first white space deployment in Amsterdam and the completion of its first integrated Electrical, Mechanical, and CSA package.
The subsequent years marked a period of rapid expansion for DPI. Between 2018 and 2020, the company extended its operations across Europe, integrated Aisle Containment & Caging Solutions (ACCS), and relocated its headquarters to Buntingford, Hertfordshire, strengthening its operational foundation. By 2020, DPI had doubled its turnover, reflecting the success of its strategic growth initiatives.
DPI’s commitment to innovation and self-delivery has always been a key differentiator. With complete control over white and grey space fit-outs, including bespoke manufacturing, powder coating, and electronic security, the company ensures unmatched quality and efficiency. Its on-site powder coating facility in the UK exemplifies this ethos, delivering sustainable, high-performance finishes with zero chemical waste and 90% reduction in material waste.
The acquisition of Technivo in 2022 and the launch of a 52,000 sq. ft manufacturing facility in the UAE marked DPI’s entry into the Middle East. By 2023, DPI had expanded into the APAC region. Today, DPI operates in over 25 countries, with permanent representatives and mobile technicians supporting global operations.
DPI’s service offering continues to evolve, now encompassing consultancy, remote hands, technical cleaning, facilities management, and strategic project advisory. The company’s innovative Hyperion Ceiling System, modular solutions and bespoke server rack cabinet enclosures are just a few examples of its continued cutting-edge innovations.
DPI’s global impact is exemplified by its AI Data Centre deployments. Supporting clients throughout Asia, marking significant progress in hyperscale and AI infrastructure development worldwide. Delivered between December 2024 and July 2025, this multi-facility build introduced the largest GB200 installation outside the United States. Housing 3,040 GPUs, it stands as the largest deployment of its kind in Asia, underscoring DPI’s capability to deliver complex, high-performance solutions that push the boundaries of innovation.
With millions of fibre connections tested and copper cables terminated, and more than one hundred thousand square metres of aisle containment installed, DPI’s impact on the data centre landscape is undeniable.
Despite its scale, DPI remains true to its founding principles. As DPI looks to the future, and its next birthday, its mission remains clear – to serve the data centre industry with excellence, precision, and a commitment to never losing a client.
From one man’s vision to a global leader, DPI’s journey is a testament to what’s possible when perfection is the goal.
