Job Purpose

We are recruiting an experienced Refrigeration Engineer to support mission‑critical data centre environments, delivering maintenance, fault response, and optimisation of cooling systems that support 24/7 operations.
You will work on live sites where uptime, resilience, and compliance are paramount, carrying out planned and reactive work on critical cooling infrastructure while strictly adhering to safety and operational procedures.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive works on:
- Specialist Liquid to Chip cooling systems (OEM training provided)
- Air‑ and water‑cooled chillers
- CRAC / CRAH units
- DX and chilled water systems
- Adiabatic and free‑cooling solutions
- Diagnose and rectify faults on live, critical systems without service disruption
- Maintain N+1 / 2N redundancy and support failover testing
- Interface with BMS / DCIM systems to respond to alarms, trends, and performance issues
- Support commissioning, system flushing, structured startup and balancing of newly installed systems
- Upgrades and system optimisation projects
- Participate in the call‑out rota to support 24/7 operations
- Work safely under Permit to Work systems, producing and following:
- RAMS
- Isolation and LOTO procedures
- Complete all service reports, compliance documentation, and fault logs accurately
- Ensure adherence to:
- F‑Gas regulations
- Health, safety, and environmental standards
- Maintain strong housekeeping standards in critical environments
- Liaise professionally with:
- Data centre operations teams
- Facilities managers
- Client representatives and third‑party contractors
- Equipment manufactures
- Internal construction delivery teams
- Communicate faults, risks, and remedial actions clearly and concisely
Essential Skills and Experience
- Relevant qualifications within Refrigeration & Air Conditioning or equivalent
- F‑Gas Category I (mandatory)
- Strong electrical knowledge (controls, panels, motors, inverters)
- Proven experience in data centres or other mission‑critical environments (e.g. hospitals, labs, critical manufacturing)
- Experience working on chillers, CRAC/CRAH units, and redundant cooling systems
- Competent fault‑finder working under SLA and uptime pressure
- Full Driving Licence
- CSCS / ECS Card (or ability to obtain)
