Data Centre Shift Technician

We are seeking a Data Centre Shift Technician (facilities, utilities – critical environments) to join our team.  This role works in shifts to ensure the smooth operation and maintenance of our clients’ data centre facilities. As part of the onsite operational team, you will be responsible for all technical operations, providing technical, preventive, and corrective maintenance in line with agreed SLAs, maintaining customer satisfaction to the highest standard. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in facilities management, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Monitor and maintain data centre infrastructure, including HVAC, electrical, and mechanical systems.
  • Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance to ensure optimal performance and reliability of all systems.
  • Respond promptly to facility-related issues and emergencies, providing timely and effective solutions. Reacting to incidents and events impacting critical infrastructure availability.
  • Maintain a working understanding of EOPs and escalation procedures to ensure effective first-line facility support.
  • Proactively perform basic maintenance tasks autonomously and perform intrusive maintenance tasks under supervision.
  • Collaborate with other team members and departments to support data centre operations and projects.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment status, and inventory. Manage subcontractor repairs and documentation.
  • Contribute to the creation of operational procedures and processes such as RAMS, MOPs, and SOPs.
  • Provide first-level response and assist in root cause analysis for facility issues and rack-level events, acting as an escalation point for junior team members.
  • Inspect, monitor, maintain, and repair buildings and equipment according to client quality standards, ensuring environmental conditions are maintained for critical building systems.
  • Continuously update and maintain knowledge on all facility-related processes and procedures, including cooling systems, access controls, and fire suppression systems.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
  • Ensure operational excellence, meet SLA’s and proactively identify potential risks.
  • Maintain business and client confidentiality, adhering to GDPR in line with company and group standards.
  • Represent the business, upholding our core values and behaviours with all internal and external customers, clients and third parties.
  • Maintain business and client confidentiality, adhering to applicable Data Protection regulations and Information Security Standards in line with company and group policies and procedures.
  • On-Call & Shift Responsibilities
    • Participate in on-call/shift team responsibilities and roster, to provide 24/7 coverage for the data centre as required.
    • Deliver excellent service outside of business hours, providing first and second-line support for alarms and handling or escalating alarms according to guidelines.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Facilities Management, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in facilities management/technician, preferably in a data centre environment.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical, and mechanical systems.
  • Knowledge of operational procedures and processes, RAMS, MOPs, and SOPs.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and independently.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to work in shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Proficiency in IT, including Microsoft Office.
