Job Purpose

We are seeking a Project(s) Health & Safety Officer / Adviser to join our team. This role is to primarily provide on-site, visible health & safety monitoring and enforcement of DPIs and its Sub-contractors’ site activities performance on a Data Centre project where DPI have been appointed as the Main Contractor/GC.
The Health & Safety Officer/Adviser shall also be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining health and safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance with local, national, and company regulations. Promote a culture of safety and continuously improve health and safety performance. They will be required to conduct: deliver inductions, briefings & training, perform audits, investigate incidents, and engage with stakeholders to promote a safe working environment.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Demonstrate strong Health and Safety leadership and compliance. Ensure visibility throughout all activities relating to the area of control, to deliver clear and consistent communications and support with the “Health is our Mission, Safety is Critical” approach.
- Provide continual on-site visibility to proactively monitor the health & safety conditions, operative behaviours and ensure works are carried out safely in line with the safe systems of work prescribed.
- Lead and oversee the performance and compliance of employees and contractors, ensuring strict adherence to health, safety and environment (HSE) standards. Ensure all legal requirements are met, and necessary training is completed for work on customer and client sites.
- Where required, develop, implement, and maintain health and safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance with local, national, and company regulations.
- Stay updated on current legislation, guidance, industry standards, and best practices to ensure all worksites meet legal requirements.
- Share knowledge and expertise on new legislation and regulatory requirements to enhance the skills and capabilities of the team and overall company.
- Ensure safety inductions, toolbox talks, training sessions, and briefings are conducted regularly and documented by the relevant departments. Verify that all training qualifications are current and up to date.
- Review and understand the health and safety and environmental documentation submitted by subcontractors (RAMS) to verify that they have suitable and sufficient systems in place to manage their own and third parties’ health & safety, and the environment effectively.
- Be able to challenge and interject when H&S standards or behaviours are not being met.
- Have some understanding of working in a mechanical & electrical environment, managing working at height activities, lifting operations, and knowledge of electrical safe systems of work.
- Oversee the safety tours and inspections programme to ensure that all operatives are regularly visited by their respective project line managers.
- Conduct safety training and awareness programs for employees to promote a culture of safety.
- Perform regular safety audits and inspections, recommending corrective actions as needed.
- Investigate accidents and incidents as necessary, document detailed reports and recommend preventive measures to avoid similar incidents in the future.
- Attend and participate in any Principal Contractor / GC meetings, activities, and project requirements with respect to health & safety.
- Monitor, assess, and apply existing or emerging regional EHS regulations, policies, and industry practices to ensure compliance.
- Lead with and undertake regular DPI Project Health & Safety Meetings & Reviews.
- Maintain project/s records and statistics on safety performance and report on health and safety metrics.
- Liaise with employees, subcontractors, and suppliers on health and safety matters as required.
- Work in collaboration with key internal stakeholders, customers, clients, and operational project managers on all aspects of H&SE to identify opportunities for improved efficiencies and provide recommendations on best practices.
- Represent the business, upholding our core values and behaviours with all internal and external customers, clients and third parties.
- Maintain business and client confidentiality, adhering to applicable Data Protection regulations and Information Security Standards in line with company and group policies and procedures.
Essential Skills and Experience
- NEBOSH Construction & International Qualification, or equivalent.
- Good experience in health and safety management.
- In-depth understanding of regional (Norwegian) health, safety, and environmental regulations and standards.
- Strong leadership abilities to guide and motivate teams towards achieving health and safety goals.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in managing major or large-scale projects.
- High level of attention to detail to ensure all safety protocols are meticulously followed.
- Ability to work under pressure and deliver results to tight deadlines.
- Skilled in managing and responding to health and safety incidents, including emergency response planning.
- Proficient in conducting thorough risk assessments and implementing effective risk mitigation strategies.
- Strong problem-solving skills to address and resolve health and safety challenges effectively.
- Competent in managing multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely and compliant delivery.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely. Fluency in the English language is required.
- Proficiency in IT skills, including Microsoft suite (Word, Excel, MS Project, and PowerPoint)
Certifications
- NEBOSH Construction & International Qualification, or equivalent.
- Have a valid HSE-card (HMS-kort).
- Preference to have completed a credible SHA-coordinator course (e.g. via Koordinatorskolen or another provider) under the Byggherreforskriften framework.
- Be familiar with Norwegian HSE laws, risk assessment, safety planning (SHA-plan), coordination across contractors/designers, documentation and follow-up process.
