Datalec Precision Installations (DPI) has experienced significant growth and expanded its capabilities, solidifying its position as a leader in the data centre and critical infrastructure industry. As you might expect, this outward growth brings along internal opportunities. To maintain success on all fronts, DPI understands it is critical to keep an eye on the ball and ensure excellence in performance and delivery.
Instrumental in pulling these pieces together is the elevation of James Bangs to the role of Technology & Services Director. With 23 years of industry experience, James brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to this new position, where he will oversee Connectivity, Electronic Security, Managed Services, and Facilities Management.
We caught up with James recently, who joined DPI in 2020 initially as a design project manager specialising in connectivity. His role quickly expanded to include the development of managed services offerings, displaying the company’s commitment to innovation and adaptability.
In his new role, James will lead the technological aspects of DPI’s operations, both internally and externally, while forming a technical steering group to support future planning needs. This strategic move underscores DPI’s dedication to remaining at the forefront of technological advancements and expanding its customer base, particularly in EMEA, the Middle East, and APAC regions.
“Technology is the backbone of everything in our lives and within this industry. It’s imperative to focus on every technological touchpoint – both internally and externally – ensuring we continue to grow efficiently, sustainably, and with a future-proof mindset. By doing so, we can consistently exceed our clients’ expectations.” James Bangs
Q. What are your responsibilities in your new role as Technical and Services Director?
A: In this new role, I will be working with Connectivity, Electronic Security, Managed Services, and Facilities Management, ensuring that all support and reporting needs for the business are met efficiently. Additionally, in coordination with our Senior Leadership Team, I will lead on directing the technological aspects of our operations, both internally and externally. With the invaluable support of our senior subject matter experts, I will form a technical steering group dedicated to supporting our future planning needs, both for the present and the future. This collaborative effort will ensure that DPI remains at the forefront of technological advancements, whilst strategically growing our capabilities and customer base.
Q: What will you focus on as your first efforts in this role?
A: My initial priorities will include the regional expansion for our services, particularly in EMEA, the Middle East, and APAC. I’ll also be collaborating with our InfoSec and IT partners to streamline and optimise our technology stack. Many of our systems offer external capabilities that directly benefit our customers, and I’m eager to further develop these to not only meet but continue to exceed their expectations.
Q: Can you share a brief background on your experience in the industry and your role within DPI?
A: I’m marking 23 years in the industry this year, having worked on a wide range of projects – from telephony and data centre infrastructure to modernisation and resilience programmes, as well as technology rationalisation and white space fit-outs. During the pandemic in 2020, I had the opportunity to join DPI, a growing business with a clear and inspiring vision. I initially started as a design project manager specialising in connectivity, but the role grew, and I spent a significant time developing our managed services offerings, which has led me to where I am today.
Q: What should the market know about you and your role?
A: For those who may not know me, my role is both internally and externally focused. If a customer approaches DPI with a project, idea or need, I’m always open to discussions to facilitate and deliver our services or a solution(s). Collaboration and innovation are at the core of what I aim to bring to this role.
Q: Are there any career highlights you’re particularly proud of?
A: There have been many standout moments in my career so far. I’ve had the privilege of working with high-profile individuals across the industry and top-tier clients, which has been incredibly rewarding.
“I’d like to acknowledge the recognition I’ve received from DPI’s leadership team for my contributions and skill set. I’m excited to deliver in this next chapter and I am grateful for the support of an exceptional team – from senior leaders to my field-based colleagues. Together, I’m confident we’ll continue to achieve great things.” James Bangs
