Machine Punch Operator for immediate start

We have an opportunity for a machine punch operator to join our team. An immediate start would be preferred but is not essential.

Job Purpose

The post holder will be responsible for the day-to-day activities of our punching machine in our manufacturing facility that supports the delivery of the client and customer products and services. The post holder will need to have a hands-on attitude with the knowledge of working machinery and/or hand tools, in a manufacturing environment.  We manufacture Data Centre caging.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Understand the full functions of the machine and its capabilities.
  • Follow manufacturers and company guidelines for startup, shut down and daily operator maintenance checks.
  • Report immediately any safety risks, defects or malfunctions to the team leader or in their absence other management.
  • Follow the sequence of works as required by the Supervisor / Team Leader.
  • Discuss with your Team Leader / Supervisor options for more efficient sequencing of work that would apply to the machine. I.e., Minimise tool changes, reduce stock material movements etc.
  • Requisition machine tools / consumables in sufficient time to meet the production dates.
  • Clean / service / sharpen tools as appropriate to maintain quality of work.
  • Check job paperwork and complete QA process paperwork as appropriate.
  • Train new operators in the safe use of the machine processes.
  • Attend unit production meetings if required.
  • Cross-train and develop in other areas of the business to suit production requirements.
  • To adhere to H & S regulations.

Skills and Behaviours

  • Flexible attitude.
  • Must be good at working under pressure and well organised.
  • Must have a good understanding of Health and Safety within a manufacturing environment.
  • Good understanding of both verbal and written English.
  • Ability to demonstrate competent understanding and use of basic workshop machine(s) and MIG welding.
  • Able to read engineering drawings.
  • Experience of workshop or similar manual Manufacturing and fabrication processes.
  • Capacity to learn new skills and production methods.

Hours of work

Core day shift working hours will be 7.00 am to 4.00 pm. Some flexibility of an hour each way of the start and finish time may be required.  Overtime will be required.

Salary

Salary range of £24, 960 (£12.00) to £31,200 (£15.00) depending on experience.
