Job Purpose

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Accounts Payable Officer to join our finance team. This role will manage and maintain the purchase ledger function for the company’s German entity while also supporting other entities within the Group. This is a diverse and challenging role for the right candidate, with the opportunity to influence and drive financial discipline within the finance department, aligning with the Group’s financial vision. The Accounts Payable Officer will build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, contractors, and stakeholders, whilst supporting the wider finance, commercial, and operational teams. It will involve collaborative working to align the new ERP system (Microsoft Business Central) with the Group’s financial needs. Knowledge and experience with German payables, VAT rates, customs invoices, and compliance with German GAAP is required.
Core Duties & Responsibilities
- Processing invoices in both the accounting and invoice approval systems
- Ownership of the Accounts Payable Mailbox for Germany
- Handling Supplier queries and resolving issues.
- Ensure that compliance is being met when posting and transacting German invoices including customs invoices, pro-forma, and deposits.
- Coordinate timely payment runs within the team to ensure payment dates are met.
- Reconciliation of Vendor Accounts
- Support the monthly VAT returns for Germany.
- The processing of personal expenses and credit cards
- Support the wider AP team across other entities when required.
- Assist with audits, providing relevant documentation.
- Support EOM procedures to ensure postings are up to date so accurate accruals can be made.
- Provide relevant AP analysis as required.
- Challenge current process.
- Look to implement continuous improvements.
Qualifications: Skills and Experience
- Minimum 3 years transactional finance experience in medium to large organisations
- Advanced understanding of the AP functions and ERP systems, ideally Microsoft Business Central (Microsoft Dynamics), or Navision
- Experience working across a German based Entity/Branch and processing invoices.
- An excellent understanding of German based regulations and compliance
- Ability to build strong internal and external stakeholder relationships.
- Excellent data manipulation and Excel skills, with high attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work well under pressure, with a proactive, can-do approach
- Construction Industry experience is advantageous
- Multilingual is advantageous (German speaking desirable)
Hours of work
40 hours per week
Core working hours 8.00am to 5.00pm.
Office based in Buntingford Headoffice.
Salary
£27k – £30k, depending on experience.
